Sunday Worship (Sacrament)

Sunday Worship

Sacrament Meeting

Our Sacrament Meeting is the main Worship Service in our Church. We partake of the Sacrament (Communion), which is passed to the Congregation by Deacons (age 12-13). It is blessed by the Priests (age 16-18), and prepared by the Teachers (age 14-15). If you dont want to take the Sacrament feel free to just pass the tray on to the next person or motion to the passing Deacon. We also have announcements and talks (Sermons) given by Members who have been Assigned. The first Sunday of every month is called Fast Sunday where some Members will choose to fast for two meals and donate that money to charity. Anyone who wants to can also come up and say why they believe in the Church.

Sunday School

After Sacrament Meeting, some Members will stay for Sunday School classes. (Just ask someone where to go). These classes will teach you certain subjects about Jesus Christ and the Church. After Sunday School, Members will go to there Quorums, a group of Members in certain Groups open to the public. Feel free to leave the Church at any time.

After-Church Meetings

Some people have after-Church Meetings. These are typically people planning lessons and activities.

Extra-Information

Feel free to leave the Church at any time.
If your waiting for someone or just plain bored, feel free to sit in the couches and chairs in the entryway.
For information, ask the Missionaries, they will be wearing black nametags.
Dont want to take the Sacrament? Just pass the tray to the next person or whisper "no thank-you" or "i'm fine" to the passer.
A pair of male missionaries, feel free to ask them any ?s you have.

Use of our Meetinghouses

A typical Cultural Hall.
The inside of a typical Chapel. Benches
for Members and Visitors (with provided
Hymnals). A Sacrament Table (Far Left),
which is used for preparing the Sacrament
(Communion). And on the Stand, a Place
for the Bishop (Pastor), and his Counselors
to sit, and in some Congregations, an area
for the Choir to sit.
Our Meetinghouses as well as used for Sunday Worship, are also used for Social Gatherings, Activities, Dinners, etc... We have many rooms in our Meetinghouses. The most used rooms are the Chapel (For Worship and Devotionals), and our Cultural Hall which is a Gymnasium and a Stage. It is used mainly for Activities but is also used as an Overflow for the Chapel on Sunday when there are alot of people. We also use the Cultural Hall for Dinners and Performances. We also have a Kitchen and Serving Area for Members to Cook as well as store special utensils when needed. As well as those things, we also have many Classrooms where on Sunday we will learn and have lessons. We also use them for Activities like Boy Scouts.

Fields and Picnic Pavilions

Many Meetinghouses also have an attached Softball/Baseball Field with Bleachers and a Picnic Pavilion. A Picnic Pavillion is a covered area with many Picnic Tables and sometimes BBQs. Many Wards also have attached Basketball Courts outside.

Our Meetinghouses

A typical Meetinghouse built after 2000.
Building that hold regular Sunday Worship are called "Meetinghouses". Meetinghouses vary depending on the place and time of Construction. Most Meetinghouses are built out of brick but sometimes can be built out of Stucco, Stone, or other materials depending on the climate. In some places with smaller Congregations, they will rent out another building or Church. For example, the Cloverdale Branch (something i read about), rents out the Seventh Day Adventist Church because Adventists worship on saturday. My dad also migrated with a bunch of other Mormons when he was little to a small town in Missouri (I forgot the name) and they bought an old Opera House. Eventually the Church built a Meetinghouse there.

Temples vs. Meetinghouses

The Salt Lake City, Utah Temple. The most
Iconic and famous Temple of the Church.
One of the most common rumors is that we Worship in Temples. WE DO NOT. I have had at least 10 people coming up asking me about Worshiping in the Temple. The Temple is only used for special Ordinances with God. More Information here.
